Escher, Marcella M.
HILLSBORO - Marcella M. Escher, 83, of rural Hillsboro, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 23,
2006, at her residence. She was born on April 20, 1923, to Wencil F. and Rose (Landsinger)
Stepka in the Town of Greenwood, Vernon County. Marcella graduated from the Hillsboro High
School. She then worked at the St. Joseph's Memorial Hospital for many years. On Oct. 31,
1970, Marcella was united in marriage to Joseph P. Escher at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic
Church in Yuba. They dairy farmed at "Melancthon Creek" for many years where she still
continued to live. Joe preceded her in death on July 27, 2003. She was a member of the St.
Wenceslaus and St. Aloysius Catholic Church and Altar Societies. Survivors include her
brother, Wenceslaus (Marcella) Stepka and sister, Dorothy Meuer, both of Hillsboro. In
addition to her husband, Joseph, she was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Agnes
Mislivecek, Elsie Vodak and Helen Heidenreich; and an infant brother, William. A Mass of
Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at the ST.
ALOYSIUS CATHOLIC CHURCH in Hillsboro, with Father Joseph Nakwah officiating. Burial will
be in the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Melancthon Creek, rural Hillsboro. Friends may
call at the PICHA FUNERAL HOME in Hillsboro, on Tuesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a
